Sinking my teeth into life

Welcome to my fundraising page!
December 2015, while riding my bike home from work, I was in a serious accident. The car in front of me decided to turn left at the last minute. I tried to slam on the brakes with all my might, but it was too late. The impact was violent, my head hit the side of the car, destroying my jaw, part of my gum and a dozen of my teeth.
I woke up after a week in the intensive care unit of the Montreal General Hospital (MGH), hooked up all over. It was a small miracle that the surgeons were able to reconstruct my jaw without having to use pieces of bone from my leg or shoulder blade. The day after I was released from the hospital, I was already back on my stationary bike, despite the remaining injuries and my cervical collar.
On September 12, 2021, I will be competing at the 2021 World Long Distance Championships in Almere-Amsterdam where I will be wearing Canada's colours in an event consisting of a 3,800-metre swim, 180-kilometre bike ride and 42.2-kilometre run.
I want to use this opportunity to raise funds for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic at the MGH. This team has been with me since my accident, they are the ones who rebuilt my jaw and my mouth and thanks to them I can turn the page on this accident that could have cost me my life.
All this strength and the will to live that accompanies my every action is one of the most powerful takeaways from my accident. I owe it to all the team and all the people who have accompanied me over the past six years!
